BLOOMFIELD, NJ - Head softball coach
Rocco Constantino has announced that Faith Apolskis, a shortstop from Soquel, California, has signed her National Letter of Intent to continue her academic and athletic career at Bloomfield College. Apolskis will be joining the Bears after playing the past two seasons for Monterey Peninsula College in Monterey, California.
"I can tell already that we're lucky to have Faith join what I think is a strong recruiting class," said Constantino. "She's a great student and a fine athlete who is a very hard worker. I also like the fact that she comes from a great winning program like Monterey. Faith is the exact type of player and student we have been looking for as we continue to build off another successful season."
For the past two years, Apolskis was a key player for coach Keith Berg on a Monterey team that went 39-22 in the highly competitive California Community College Athletic Association. From her first game as a freshman, Apolskis batted third and started at shortstop for the Lobos. Over the past two seasons she hit .415 (55-132) for the 10th ranked team in Northern California according to RPI rankings.
Apolskis recorded 13 doubles, five triples and two home runs over that time while scoring 33 runs and driving in 37 in 44 games over her two seasons at Monterey. She registered a slugging percentage of .636 over her career and hit safely in 33 of the 44 games she played at Monterey. She also had multi-hit games in over one-third of the games she started.
Prior to attending Monterey, Apolskis was a First-Team All-League player multiple times in the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League for the highly successful Soquel High softball team. As a senior, Apolskis led one of the top scholastic teams in Northern California to a 23-5 record and a SCCAL championship.
"Faith has always been around successful teams, and I don't think that's by accident," said Constantino. "From what I can tell, she's a team leader and someone who is very well respected by her teammates, coaches and opponents. I think she'll be successful pretty quickly here and I look forward to what she can do."
Faith is the daughter of Ray and Barbara Apolskis and plans on majoring in communications at Bloomfield.
Bloomfield is coming off a season in which they went 25-21-1 and advanced to the CACC Tournament semifinals. They are just one of three CACC teams to finish .500 or better and qualify for the CACC Tournament in each of the past five seasons. Apolskis joins Jamie Cook and Gabby Citriniti, All-American teammates at Corning Community College, in Bloomfield's 2015 recruiting class.
