Junior third baseman Mallorie Mathews was named CACC Player of the Week for the weekend ending on March 16^th. Mathews led the Deacons to a 3-1 trip to Virginia and North Carolina last weekend.

In a doubleheader against Virginia State, Mathews went 7-9 with 6 RBI in helping the Deacons sweep VSU. In game 2 of the doubleheader, she went 4-5 and fell just a triple short of the cycle. According to VSU’s sports information department, Mathews’ home run was the first hit out of their stadium in 3 seasons.

Against Chowan University, Mathews performed in the clutch in both games of a double header. In game 1, Mathews drew a 6^th inning walk, stole second base and scored the go-ahead run on a double in the Deacons’ 3-2 win over the Hawks. In the second game, Mathews gave BC a first inning lead with an RBI single, plating Vickie Berardi who had tripled earlier in the inning.

For the week, Mathews hit .600 with 7 RBI and 6 runs scored in 4 games. For the season, she is hitting .452 with 3 home runs and 17 RBI. She also increased her fielding percentage to .935 with an errorless weekend at third base.
