Deacons rally to edge Eagles 5-4

WILTON, CT - The men's tennis team registered their first victory of the season Tuesday afternoon, as they rallied to win four consecutive matches to close out a 5-4 road win over CACC rival Post University.

The Eagles were able to jump out to an early lead in the match, taking two out of the three doubles matches to hold a 2-1 advantage.  Daniel Petner and Andres DeCastro fell to the team of Caio Rodrigues and Andrew Oliveira 8-4 in first doubles, but Evan McCall and Terry Gibbs topped Mike MacDonald and Tyrone Napper 8-3 to square the match at a victory apiece.  But Jamal Loper and Jolston Wattley weren't able to give the Deacons the lead in third doubles, as Markeese McLeod and Franzy Noze took an 8-2 decision to put the Eagles up 2-1.

It seemed as if Post would be able close out a victory, as they took the first two matches in singles play to take a 4-1 lead.  McCall dropped a 6-0, 6-0 decision to Rodrigues in first singles, while Luis Perez couldn't solve McCleod, falling 6-2, 6-2 in second singles.

But the Deacons stormed back to take the final four matches of the afternoon, earning a 5-4 victory.  Petner topped Oliviera in three sets in third singles, winning 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.  DeCastro followed, winning a three-set decision 6-0, 6-6, 6-2, and Loper bested Noze in straight sets to knot the match at four wins apiece, taking the fifth singles contest 6-1, 6-2.  Wattley gave the Deacons the match victory in sixth singles, taking out Omar Allyne in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0.

The team returns to action Thursday, April 8 with a road match against Philadelphia University.  Start time is set for 4:00 PM.
