BLOOMFIELD - The 2011 season for the Bloomfield College Men's Tennis team ended with a 9-0 loss on the road to CACC rival Chestnut Hill College on April 16.
In singles play,
Ceran Messam played a solid match, but lost to Mario Gutierrez 8-3 in first singles.
Jamal Loper came out on the short end of an 8-2 decision to Joson Villafuerte in second singles, while
Andres DeCastro lost to Manuel Ceniceros by a similar score in third singles.
Lordale Benosa would follow the trend, falling to Julius Twyman 8-2 in fourth singles. Fifth and sixth singles saw Chestnut Hill take control of the matches, with
Evan McCall topped by Jeramy Solema 8-0 in fifth singles and
Steven Hobart closing singles action with an 8-1 loss to Michael Pecoraro.
In doubles play, the team of DeCastro and Benosa lost to Villafuerte and Farah 8-3 in first doubles. Second doubles saw Messam and Loper fall to Ceniceros and Gutierrez 8-2. Third doubles left Beckford and Hobart on the short end of an 8-2 match against Twyman and Avena.
"Overall, I think we made some positive strides this season," Bloomfield head coach
Peter-John Falloon said. "We improved our play a great deal from last year, so our program is moving in the right direction. Hopefully the trend will continue, and we will be able to earn a spot in the conference tournament in 2012."
The final record for the Deacons is 4-8 overall and 2-4 in CACC competition.
