Deacons edge Chestnut Hill 2-1

BOX SCORE

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (September 29, 2012) -
Senior Michael Beeson (London, England) netted an unassisted tally in the 68th minute to give the Bloomfield College men's soccer team a lead they would not relinquish Saturday afternoon, as the club improved to 5-3 overall and 3-1 in conference play by notching a 2-1 road victory over CACC rival Chestnut Hill College.

The Deacons drew first blood just eleven minutes into the match, when senior forward Kemar Richards (Kingston, Jamaica) scored his fifth goal of the season on an unassisted strike to put the visitors on top 1-0.  Bloomfield would hold the advantage until the final seconds of the opening half, when Chestnut Hill's Anthony O'Connor headed a corner kick to the back of the net to even the match at one in the final minute of the frame.

Enter Beeson, who broke the gridlock with 22 minutes remaining in the contest, giving the Deacons a 2-1 lead with his first goal of the season after a turnover in the Chestnut Hill end.  The Bloomfield defense would hold the advantage the rest of the way, with sophomore keeper Kieran Moran (Bronx, N.Y.) totaling six saves to preserve the one-goal victory.  The visiting Deacons held a 21-17 advantage in shots on the afternoon, with senior Diego Mayanga (Queens, N.Y.) and Richards totaling six and five shots respectively.

"We did a lof of things much better today then in our previous match," Bloomfield head coach Peter-John Falloon said.  "Getting road victories in conference in always extremely important, and it separates the good teams from the average.  We will have a tough test Tuesday night, so we must be prepared to play our best game of the season.  Hopefully the effort we displayed today will carry over."

Bloomfield returns to action Tuesday, October 2, when they welcome CACC foe Post University for a home match at Foley Field in Bloomfield, N.J.  Kickoff for the contest is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
