Deacons rolls to 5-1 win over Georgian Court

BOX SCORE

LAKEWOOD, N.J. -
Senior defender Jonathon Waters (St. Simon's Island, Ga.) led an offensive onslaught wth a pair of goals to lift the Bloomfield College men's soccer team to its first victory of the season Thursday afternoon, as the Deacons improved to 1-3 overall and 1-0 in conference play with a 5-1 road win over CACC rival Georgian Court University.

Sophomore Marin Jonjic (Podstrana, Croatia) got the visitors on the board with the match's first tally just six minutes into the contest, notching an unassisted goal to put Bloomfield on top 1-0.  Waters would then extend the lead to 2-0 in the 37th minute, finishing a corner kick off the foot of fellow senior Morgan Lebeurre (Gien, France) to notch his first goal of the season and put the Deacons up a pair heading into the intermission.

Georgian Court would pull to within a goal in the 67th minute, when Sebastian Gostynski (Garfield, N.J.) finished a feed from Jordan Eugenis (Wayside, N.J.) to notch his first goal of the year.  But Bloomfield would counter with three more goals over the remainder of the match, putting the game out of reach and sending the club to its first victory of the 2013 campaign.

Rookie Shaunavon deSouza (Montego Bay, Jamaica) struck first for the Deacons, notching an unassisted tally in the 79th minute to move the Bloomfield lead back to two at 3-1.  The goal would be the first of three Deacons scores over a two-minute span, as Lebeurre scored an unassisted goal just 29 seconds later to push the lead to 4-1.  Waters again finished a corner kick off the foot of Lebeurre to move the lead to 5-1 and secure his second goal of the match, capping the three-goal barrage in the 81st minute to ice the victory.

The Deacons totaled a season-high 21 shots in the win, while Lebeurre set a career-high with four points on the afternoon.  Rookie keeper Arthur Clapot (Annecy, France) made four saves to secure his first collegiate victory.

Bloomfield returns to action Sept. 21, when they welcome CACC rival Holy Family University to Foley Field for a weekend conference match.  Kickoff for the contest is scheduled for 1 p.m.
