BOX SCORE
BLOOMFIELD, N.J. - The Bloomfield College men's soccer team fell to 1-5 on the season Tuesday night, as they dropped a 4-1 home decision to non-conference opponent Mercy College at Foley Field.
The Deacons jumped out in front of the nationally-ranked Mavericks in the opening stages of the match, as rookie
Shaunavon deSouza (Montego Bay, Jamaica) broke in behind the Mercy back line and finished a feed from
Dejan Susak (Phoenix, Az.) to put Bloomfield on top 1-0 in the eighth minute. The home team would hold the lead until the 20th minute, when
Mercy's Roberto Dashi (Nyack, N.Y.) deflected in a free kick off the foot of
Danny Leon, Jr. (Flushing, N.Y.) to even the match at one. Mercy would take the lead in the 41st minute off a goal from
Michael Ledesma (Miami Beach, Fl.), sending the Deacons into the intermission down a goal at 2-1.
Bloomfield would total nine shots on the night, but proved unable to mount a comeback effort, as the Mavericks would add a pair of goals over the final 45 minutes of play to secure the three-goal victory.
Andrew Levy (Bayside, N.Y.) put Mercy up two with a tally in the 60th minute, and Dashi would add his second goal of the match in the 74th minute to conclude the night's scoring.
The Deacons will return to action Sept. 28, when they travel to take on Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) rival Philadelphia University for a road conference match. Kickoff time for the contest has yet to be announced.
