LAFAYETTE HILL, P.A. - The Bloomfield College men's soccer team went on the road and handed the Griffins of Chestnut Hill only their fourth shutout loss on the season Saturday afternoon in a key Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) battle picking up a 5-0 win. The Bears improved to 6-8 on the year and more importantly helped their postseason chances (6-4 CACC) with the victory while Chestnut Hill fell to an overall 8-7-1 mark and down to fourth place in the CACC standings at 7-3-1 in conference matches.
Bloomfield College's offense on the day was powered by two goals each from junior forward
Marin Jonjic (Podstrana, Croatia) and sophomore forward
Amin Miller (Mondeville, Jamaica). Jonjic found the back of the net twice in the first half to give the Bears an early 2-0 lead. His first goal come off a deflection in the box that he converted to a turnaround shot into the twine for Bloomfield's 1-0 advantage at 17:04. In the 20th minute of play, Jonjic converted a penalty kick for the 2-0 margin. Miller opened up the margin to three with a timely goal just before halftime with 44:28 showing on the clock.
Miller found his way back into scoring position early in the second half, taking on a pass from sophomore forward
Shaunavon deSouza (Montego Bay, Jamaica) in the box, to give the Bears a 4-0 lead in the 56th minute. Senior midfielder
Charles Crichlow (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added a late header for Bloomfield off a cross from sophomore defender
Gus Ortega (Tewsbury, N.J.) for the 5-0 score at 83:57.
Jonjic recorded a game-high five shots in a 16-10 advantage for the Bears, while on the Chestnut Hill side senior defender
Dominic Pernice (Lewis, De.) registered three to lead the Griffins. Sophomore keeper James Jackson (Sewell, N.J.) had four saves in for the Griffins in the loss (8-6-1), and sophomore
Arthur Clapot (Annecy, France) stopped two shots for Bloomfield to improve his mark to 6-3 on the season.
Jonjic was named to the CACC Men's Soccer Honor Roll yhis week for his offensive efficiency during Saturday's game.
Next up the Bears continue to claw their way into postseason contention with a home contest on Tuesday, October 28th against CACC rival Post University.
