Men's Basketball

TIGERS END MEN'S BASKETBALL CACC PLAYOFF RUN 62-51

Box Score

CALDWELL, NJ - The Bloomfield College men's basketball team dropped their semifinal matchup against the Tigers of Holy Family University, 62-51. The loss ends the Deacons season as the Tigers advance to face Philadelphia University in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference final tomorrow at 4:00pm.

A team that averages over 80.0 ppg in conference play, the Deacons scored a season low 51 points during the playoff contest. Steve Henderson (West Orange, NJ) was the lone Bloomfield player to post double-figures on the scoreboard (12). The Deacons held a slight 46-42 edge in rebounds leading to a 13-2 advantage in 2nd chance points. Bloomfield managed to limit their turnovers to just 12 for the game while forcing 17 from the Tigers.

Senior Mike Williams (Ewing, NJ) netted Bloomfield's first 3 points in the opening period, connecting on a jump shot and then 1 out of 2 from the charity stripe. The Tigers answered back on a 3-pointer by Alberto Munoz and the teams battled back and forth exchanging the lead. Munoz would connect on back-to-back shots from beyond the arc on consecutive Holy Family possessions putting the Deacons in a 15-10 hole. With poor shooting plaguing the Deacons' afternoon, Holy Family would lead the rest of the contest. Bloomfield cut the deficit to two (21-19) on a Marvin Williams (Jersey City, NJ) jumper with 2:45 remaining in the first half. The Tigers then closed out the half with the final 4 points taking a 25-19 lead into the locker room.

Bloomfield shot a season-low 19.0% from the field (7-36) only converting one 3-pointer during the first half and the second stanza began the same way as the Deacons missed on their opening three possessions. Holy Family would lead the entire period, reaping the benefits of Bloomfield's shooting woes. Henderson would provide a spark nailing two 3-pointers to draw Bloomfield within two (31-29) however the Tigers roared back with two 3-pointers of their own by Khiry Hankins (37-31). The comeback was not meant to be as Holy Family closed out the contest with 7 freethrows, cutting the Deacons playoff run short.

Bloomfield concludes their season with a 20-8 overall mark, placing 3 players on the All-CACC Team and Coach of the Year honors for Gerald Holmes.
