NYACK, N.Y. - Sophomore guards,
Tianna Smith (Nanuet, N.Y.) and
Morgan Taylor (Paterson, N.J.) combined for thirty-two points on Wednesday evening, leading the Bears to a 74-52 victory over Nyack College. Taylor dished out a career-high, eight assists for the game as Bloomfield improved to 9-7 on the season and 7-2 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play. The Warriors fell to 1-15 for the year, with a 1-9 mark in conference match ups.
Bloomfield completed the season sweep of the Warriors by shooting 40.7 percent from the field (22-54) while holding the home team to 32.7 percent (16-49) for the evening at the Bowman Gymnasium. The Bears forced 26 Nyack turnovers during the game and picked up 10 steals with junior guard
Ariel Wilson (Chesapeake, Va.) securing three of them. Senior center,
Tierra Scott (Bear, Del.) made her presence felt on the defensive end, blocking four Warrior shot attempts.Â
The Bears reeled off the game's first twenty-five points and as in the two teams previous meeting on January 10, 2015, Bloomfield led the match wire-to-wire. Nyack managed to put up 18 points in the opening half with forward Jamie McKeither (Laurel, M.D.) and guard Alyssa Gatti (Brooklyn, N.Y.) each recording 5 points. Wilson nailed a jumper just before the half to send the CACC North Division leading Bears into the locker room with a 45-18 edge. Smith netted the bulk of her offensive output in the first period, going 5-for-8 from the field including a perfect 2-for-2 from beyond the arc and 3-for-4 from the free throw line. Taylor pitched in 9 points in the frame on 2-of-3 shooting and 4-for-4 from the charity stripe.
The second half proved to be more of the same and Bloomfield kept the home team from mounting a formidable comeback to challenge the double-digit deficit. A layup in the paint by McKeither at the 7:13 minute mark brought the Warriors to within seventeen (58-41) but the Bears pushed the advantage back over twenty on two free throws from Scott (62-41) and cruised to the 74-52 win. Â
Smith finished the evening with a team-high 17 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the field. Taylor tied her career-high with 8 rebounds for the match to go along with her 8 assists and 15 points. Wilson added 9 points to her 3 steals for the game and Scott finished with 8 points to compliment her 4 blocks. The Bears also saw contributions from their freshman guard,
De'Andra Humphries (Boston, Mass.) and junior forward
Iman Williams (Chesapeake, Va.) who each had 8 points and 1 rebound.
McKeither led all scorers, recording 18 points on 6-for-15 shooting from the field and Gatti finished with 11 points (1-7) including 9-for-10 from the free throw line. The Warriors' Raven Makins (Laurel, M.D.)Â posted a double-double, grabbing a game-high 10 rebounds to go along with 11 points.
