BEARS HOLD ON FOR 60-56 CACC VICTORY OVER FELICIAN COLLEGE ON THE ROAD

RUTHERFORD, N.J.- The Bloomfield College women's basketball team traveled a short distance to take a 60-56 decision over the Golden Falcons of Felician College on Wednesday evening. The Bears held on for the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory despite poor shooting from the free throw line down the stretch and improved to 7-5 overall on the season with a 5-1 conference mark. The Golden Falcons fell to 1-13 on the year with the setback at home and remained winless in CACC play at 0-7.

Bloomfield led the contest from wire to wire but the Golden Falcons were within one possession with just nineteen seconds remaining in the game. The Bears missed 5 free throws in the last minute of the contest that gave Felician hope but the home team did not execute well on the offensive side of the ball and Bloomfield boarded the vans with their second straight conference win.

Junior guard, Ariel Wilson (Chesapeake, Va.) led all scorers with a season-high 21 points, which included 3-for-4 from beyond three-point range. Senior, Tierra Scott (Bear, D.E.) controlled the boards for the Bears, snatching a season-high 15 rebounds with ten of them coming on the defensive glass. The home team saw freshman Shyla Osmond (New Haven, Conn.) pour in 19 points and senior Ashley Morris (West Orange, N.J.) notch a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

The Bears opened the game building a seven-point advantage (13-6) on a jumper from sophomore Tianna Smith (Nanuet, N.Y.) at the 12:35 minute mark. The lead ballooned to fifteen (31-16) for Bloomfield after freshman Alexia Tucker (Halifax, Va.) buried a three-pointer with 4:01 remaining in the first half. Felician reeled off a 12-3 run and closed out the period trailing 34-28 heading into the locker room. Bloomfield's defense forced 17 turnovers in the opening period but committed 14 of their own.

In the second half, the Bears flexed their lead to eleven (45-34) on a lay up in the paint by Scott. The Golden Falcons clawed back to within five (57-52) after Osmond nailed a three-point bucket with 2:58 remaining in regulation. Both teams went cold from the field over the next two minutes but Bloomfield found themselves in the bonus and at the free throw line with an opportunity to seize control on the contest. Five missed chances at the charity stripe for Bloomfield had left the door open for the Golden Falcons who could not capitalize and eventually succumbed to the four-point loss.

The Bears next action will be on Saturday, January 10th when they host the Warriors of Nyack College at 1:00 pm.
