PHILADELPHIA, P.A. – Freshman
Lisa Parello (Staten Island, N.Y.) scored her fourth goal of the season, but the Bloomfield College women's soccer team fell to Philadelphia University, 3-2, Saturday afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action.
With the loss, Bloomfield descends to 3-6 overall and 1-5 in the CACC, while the Rams bumped to a 4-5 record with a 3-3 stand in league play.
Philly U jumped out to an early lead as Nicole Raab sent the ball to the back of the net past
Diana Vincentini (Lacey TWP, N.J.) for the 1-0 strike just 7 minutes and 19 seconds into play. The Rams found their way around Vincentini two more times before the half to take a 3-0 lead into the break.
Philly U, celebrating Homecoming, held the shot advantage at 13-2 in the first half putting the Bears defense on it's heels in front of 400 fans.
Bloomfield made some changes in the second half as freshman
Emira Sela (Staten Island, N.Y.) took over the goal keeping responsibilities and pitched a shutout. The Bears offense came alive in the 71
st minute when Parello buried a shot from 15 yards out to put the visiting team on the board.
Bloomfield cut the deficit to 3-2 in the 79
th minute of action as a deflection off the Rams goalie found the foot of
Nicole McWilliams (Staten Island, N.Y.) scoring her third goal of the season. The Homecoming crowd drew quiet with Bears on the verge of a comeback however Bloomfield mustered just one more shot attempt for the game and the Rams came away with the victory.
In the first half, Vincentini made five saves, while Sela stopped three shots on goal. The Rams held an 11-5 advantage in shots on goal and a 9-2 edge in corner kicks.
The Bears will look to bounce back from the CACC loss when they travel to face the Clippers of Concordia on Wednesday afternoon. The match is set to begin at 2:30 pm in Bronxville.
