BLOOMFIELD, N.J. - The dynamic duo of junior guards,
Tianna Smith (Spring Valley, N.Y.) and
Morgan Taylor (Paterson, N.J.) combined for 26 points in Bloomfield's 64-53 victory over non-conference foe, Bowie State University Friday evening. The Bears were able to fend off the Bulldogs and picked up their third consecutive win of 2015 and now sit a 3-1 overall. The loss dropped the visiting CIAA conference opponents to 1-2 on the season and handed Bowie State their first road loss as well.
In the first two quarters, the Bloomfield defense held the Bulldogs to 36.4 percent shooting from the field allowing only 8 field goals by the half. The Bears took a 30-22 lead into halftime on 11-of-32 shooting from the field (34.4 percent).
The third quarter saw the visiting squad make a charge out of the locker room when a 6-2 spurt pulled the CIAA team to within six (36-30) but back-to-back buckets by Taylor gave the Bears their largest lead of the frame (43-32). In the fourth quarter Bloomfield extended to a 15-point advantage after a jumper by Taylor and cruised to the 64-53 victory.
Smith finished the night with 15 points (6-13 FG, 3-4 FT) while Taylor recorded 11 points on 50 percent shooting from the field (5-10 FG).
Chyna Golden (Neptune, N.J.) grabbed a team-high 10 boards for the Bears and
Ariel Wilson (Chesapeake, Va.) had a solid day at the office registering 8 points (5-6 FT), 6 assists and 3 steals.
On the Bulldog side of the ball, sophomore
Kiara Colston tallied 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field to go along with five rebounds. Junior
Ashley Jennings recorded a double-double in the setback, as she registered 10 points and 10 rebounds for the visitors.
Next up, the Bears hibernate for the weekend before they welcome the Pioneers of LIU-Post to the gym. The Pre-Thanksgiving Tuesday evening tip off is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
