WATERBURY, Conn. – A header by
Jerome Bland (London, England) with thirty-five seconds remaining in overtime lifted the Bears over #2 seeded, Post University Thursday afternoon at Municipal Stadium. Bloomfield avenged a loss to the Eagles nine days earlier in their regular season finale and earned a spot in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament finals on Saturday morning. The last second victory improved the #6 Bears to 10-6-2 on year while also ending Post University's 2015 campaign at 12-6-1.
Bloomfield will now square off with the #4 seeded Griffins at 11:00 am who upset the CACC Tournament's top seed, Wilmington University, to earn their place in Saturday's final.
The Bears defeated Chestnut Hill 4-1 when the two teams met in Bloomfield, N.J. on October 10. The Bears will make their appearance in the CACC title game for the first time since 2010.
Bland's game-winning goal was his first of the season and came off a rebound on a shot from
Shaunavon DeSouza (Montego Bay, Jamaica) who drilled the ball on goal and the Bear's defender found himself in the right place at the right time to finish the game.
Bloomfield played aggressive much of the contest, holding a 10-6 shot advantage with 8 offers on target forcing the Eagles keeper, Jon Hanlon to make seven saves. Junior goalie
Wilson Cisneros (Bronx, N.Y.) recorded three saves on the day and picked up his fifth shutout of the season. The teams were even in corner kicks on the pitch with 4 apiece.
