SMITH LEADS BEARS ATTACK OVER NYACK ON THE ROAD

NYACK, N.Y. - Tianna Smith (Spring Valley, N.Y.) continued her stellar play in 2015 with a 23-point performance to lead the Bears over Nyack College, 67-54 Saturday afternoon. Bloomfield travelled into the Empire State and faced their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division rival for the first time this season. The victory marked the Bears 5th straight and pushed their overall record to 9-2 on the year with an undefeated, 5-0 mark in conference action. The Warriors fell to 4-6 overall and 2-2 in league play.

Bloomfield held Nyack to a season low 29.6 percent (16-54) from the field, including a dismal 6.7 percent (1-15) from long distance. The Bears also forced 25 Warrior turnovers and converted them into 32 points.

Smith recorded her fourth 20+ game of the year as she shot 7 of 12 from the floor and 6 of 8 at the line, while also registering a pair of assists and steals. Senior Ariel Wilson (Chesapeake, Va.) posted 14 points (3-12 FG, 8-12 FT) and nine rebounds, while dishing out 5 assists and grabbing 4 steals. Junior Morgan Taylor (Paterson, N.J.) rounded out the Bears double-digit scorers with 10 points (3-7 FG, 2-2 3-FG) and senior Chyna Golden (Neptune, N.J.) notched a team-high 10 boards to go along with 8 points.

Raven Makins led Nyack with a double-double 16 points and fourteen rebounds, while Mariah Brown added 14 points on 6 of 9 shooting from the field.

Bloomfield never trailed in the first quarter of play and after a Taylor 3-pointer the visitors enjoyed a 16-13 lead heading into the second frame. The second quarter saw the Bears lead expand to eight by period's end as the CACC North Division's top team went into the half up 29-21.

Nyack would get as close as 61-54 with 1:50 to play, but the Bears defense stiffened and the home team was held scoreless for the rest of the game.

In addition to outshooting Nyack, 39.2 percent (20-51) to 29.6 percent from the floor and 50.0 percent (5-10) to 6.7 percent from deep, Bloomfield won the assists battle 10-5. The Warriors held a 44-39 advantage on the glass, including 20-13 on the offensive end. The second chance points and points in the paint were both virtually even, but Nyack held a 7-4 edge in bench points.

The victory marked head coach David Caputo's 100th victory at the collegiate level. Caputo will lead the regionally ranked Bears into their next matchup on Sunday, December 20 when they face the Panthers of Adelphi University. The non-conference road test will tip off at 1:30 pm.

The Bears return to action Saturday, Dec. 12 at 1:00 p.m. when they travel to face Nyack in another CACC North Division battle. Stay up-to-date with the latest news, including game previews and recaps, from the Bloomfield College athletic department by liking the Bears on Facebook and following the Bears on Twitter or Instagram @GO_BCBears.
