PHILADELPHIA, P.A. - The Bears men's basketball team dropped their second straight Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game in as many days, falling 90-75 to the Devils of Usciences on the road Saturday afternoon. The loss featured the nationally ranked Devils' forward, Garret Kerr (Avalon, N.J.) who exploded for a season-high double-double, posting 37 points and 19 rebounds on his Senior Day. Bloomfield saw their own senior guard,
Marvin Williams (Jersey City, N.J.) net a career-high 30 points on 10-for-13 shooting from the field and a perfect performance from three-point territory (3-3) and the free throw line (7-7). The setback dropped the Bears (11-14, 10-8 CACC) to fourth in the CACC North Division while the Devils (21-4, 15-2 CACC) won their eleventh straight and sit atop the South Division with two games left to play on their schedule.
USciences took control of the game right from the opening tip, coming out of the gate with a 10-0 run fueled by seven points from Kerr. The Bears fought back cutting the deficit to four (26-22) with 8:57 left in the first half after a
Claude Blue (Brooklyn, N.Y.) jumper. Bloomfield's comeback attempt was countered by a Devils 17-2 spurt that put them up 43-24 at the 4:27 mark in the first stanza. Usciences' offense was too strong for the Bears in the opening period, led by Kerr's 25 first half points on 11-for-17 shooting, the Devils went into the half up 55-31.
Bloomfield played much better in the second half, shooting 48 percent from the floor, but the Devils lead was too much to overcome. The Bears closed the deficit to thirteen (77-64) with 4:24 left after
Matt Hall (Brooklyn, N.Y.) notched a pair of free throws. Williams then connected on a pair of his own free throws to make it 78-66 at the 3:40 mark. The Bears could not get any closer as the CACC South Division leaders continued on for the victory.
Blue finished the game with 19 points on 8-of-14 shooting while guard,
Clarence White (Bronx, N.Y.) added 10 points in the setback. Williams also snatched a season-high seven steals.
Despite the loss the Bears clinched their eighth consecutive post-season birth and will close out their regular season with a chance to move up in the standings as they travel to Caldwell University to face the Cougars this Tuesday, February 24th. The tip off for the battle between crosstown rivals is set for 8:00pm as Caldwell looks to avenge an earlier loss on a last second buzzer-beater by Williams on December 3, 2014.
