BEARS BASEBALL DROP SECOND STRAIGHT IN 7-4 LOSS TO WARRIORS IN FLORIDA

LANTANA, Fla. – Sophomore Brandon Morales (Hialeah, Fla.) went 3-for-5, was on base three times and drove in two runs, but the Bloomfield College baseball team fell to Nyack College, 7-4, Wednesday afternoon at the Santaluces Field 1 in Florida.

The Bears, who committed five errors on the afternoon that led to four unearned runs, dip to 0-2 on the season, while the Warriors pick up their first victory of the year and improve to 1-9.

Nyack jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning against junior starter Justin Eclavea (South San Francisco, C.A.) on a passed ball and RBI sac-fly to left-center. The Warriors then posted a run in both the fourth and fifth inning to increase their advantage to 4-0.

The Bears made it on the board in the sixth as senior Juan Hilario (Bronx, N.Y.) singled to plate Morales, who reached on a single of his own and then stole second base. Freshman Harry Montero (Millville, N.J.) drove home Hilario with a single that cut the Warriors lead in half (4-2) heading to the bottom of the inning.

Nyack reestablish their four run advantage in the bottom half of the inning as a single by Dylan Schantz (Phoenix, A.Z.) scored Yoni Rodriguez (Miramar, Fla.) who reached on a double. A passed ball moved Schantz over to second base where Cole Tobin (Dover, N.H.) drove him in with a single and knocked Eclavea out of the game.  Senior reliever, Mark Reyes (Bronx, N.Y.) entered struck out a batter to end the inning.

Bloomfield grabbed another two in the seventh as Morales sent a single up the middle to score sophomore Ben Thomas (Burlington, N.J.) and senior Ray Lang (Middlesex, N.J.) who began the inning with his own single. The Warriors answered with a run in the bottom of the inning however, as sophomore, Charles Castellano (Bayonne, N.J.) took over on the mound.

The Bears managed to bring the tying run to the batter's box but freshman Juan Reina (Paterson, N.J.) lined into a triple play to end the game and secure Nyack's victory.

Eclevea (0-1) allowed six runs – three earned – on seven hits and two walks in 5.2 innings. Castellano relinquished an unearned run and a walk in one inning of work. Junior Kyle Murzyn (Glassboro, N.J.) saw an inning on the mound as well, striking out one batter and hitting another with a pitch.
