BLOOMFIELD, N.J. – Out in the cold and rainy weather the Bloomfield College Men's tennis team (1-4, 0-3) suffered a defeat at the hands of the Griffins of Chestnut Hill College (6-6, 2-0) 5-1 on Tuesday afternoon. The Griffins entered the contest ranked third in the region.
The Bears dropped all three doubles competition matches to start the day. The tandems of
Adam Carter (Somerdale, N.J.)/ Shimari Shuler (Browns Mills, N.J.) and
Nikola Seles (Belgrade, Serbia)/
Ville Heikkilae (Lohja, Finland) were both defeated 8-0.
Vadim Kustov (Krasnodar, Russia) and
Thulani Hove (Highland Park, N.J.) teamed up and lost a hard fought match 8-6.
Going into singles competition down 3-0 already, Bloomfield dropped their first two matches. Carter was defeated 8-0 in the sixth singles spot and Shuler dropped his #5 match 6-2.
The weather began to play a factor with the rain creating wet and dangerous conditions on the courts.
Chestnut Hill's Pedro Oranges slipped on the court and was injured during his match with Heikkilae. Oranges was unable to continue and retired from the match. The victory was given to Heikkilae and the Bears however after Orange's injury the coaches came together to discuss the conditions and decided that the remaining sigles competitions would not be finished. With the Griffins already with five matches under their belt, the visitors took a 5-1 victory in their second Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action of 2015.
Bloomfield will hope for better weather conditions
tomorrow when they welcome Gloucester County College. The match is scheduled to begin at
