BEARS AND CHARGERS SPLIT 40 RUN DAY IN CACC ACTION

LITTLE FALLS, N.J. - The Bears offense came alive Saturday afternoon in a 40 run split against Dominican College (12-18, 9-7). Powered by Anthony Lantigua's (Bellville, N.J.) three-run homer at the plate and Jose Toribio's (West New York, N.J.) complete game performance on the mound, Bloomfield took game one 7-3. The Chargers bats joined the party in game two and fueled a 17-13 victory for the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference visitors.

Toribio earned his first victory of the season, pitching nine innings allowing three runs while striking out four. The righty was given all the run support he would need in the bottom of the second. With the Bears down 1-0 Juan Hilario (Bronx, N.Y.) scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at 1-1. Lantigua stepped to the plate with two outs and runners on second and third and blasted his second homerun of the year making it 4-1.

Dominican cut the deficit to 4-2 in the fourth on a sacrifice fly to center field. Bloomfield's lead grew in the fifth on an RBI single by Hilario scoring Juan Reina (Paterson, N.J.). Hilario then scored on Harry Montero's (Millville, N.J.) single up the middle making it 6-2. Isaac Pichardo (Passaic, N.J.) extended the lead to 7-2 with an RBI single of his own. Hilario, Montero, and Reina each went 2-for-4 in game one.

The Chargers pushed across a run in the eighth making it 7-3 but Toribio shut it down in the ninth to pick up the win.

Dominican came out stronger in game two putting up four runs in the top of the fourth on Bear's sophomore starter, Charles Castellano (Bayonne, N.J.).  The Chargers scored two in the second, two in the third and one in the fourth taking a 9-0 lead. Lucas Junger (Waretown, N.J.) came on to pitch in the third and threw 3.2 innings but was unable to shut down the Chargers' offense.

The Bears got back in the game in the bottom of the fourth with the bases loaded, Ray Lang (Middlesex, N.J.) hit a base clearing triple to right center and scored on a Cristopher Cabral (Lodi, N.J.) single up the middle to make it 9-4.

Junger surrendered two more runs in the fifth making it 11-4 Dominican but Bloomfield cut that deficit to 11-8 in the bottom of the sixth thanks to a pair of two run singles by Reina and Hilario.

Isaiah Arroyo (Tampa, F.L.) relieved Junger in the seventh and only recorded one out while giving up five runs that pushed the Chargers to a 16-8 lead. Mark Reyes (Bronx, N.Y.) came on in relief and got out of the seventh inning jam and then pitched a scoreless eighth.

The Bears answered back in the bottom of the seventh scoring a run on a Cabral single to left making it 16-9. They tacked on four more in the eighth to make it 16-13. Hilario got the rally started singling to left, driving in Brandon Morales (Hialeah, F.L.). Montero followed with a two run double down the left field line and scored on an error. Bloomfield failed to score again and lost the high-scoring thriller.

The Bears are back in action this Thursday when they travel to Post University for a re-scheduled conference double-header. First game is set to start at Noon.
