AZAR ENDS BEARS 2015 BASEBALL SEASON IN WALK-OFF FASHION

NEWARK, N.J. - It was the last time the 2015 Bears would play together on the same field and senior, Shadi Azar (South San Francisco, C.A.) made sure it was memorable. The right fielder came up in the bottom of the 11th with the game tied 3-3 and blasted his first career homer over the left field wall to walk off and end the Bears season with a 4-3 victory over Caldwell University.

Things didn't look good early on as poor defense behind senior starter, Jose Toribio (West New York, N.J.) put Bloomfield down 3-0 after four innings. The Bears finally got on the board in fifth when freshman, Juan Reina (Paterson, N.J.) singled to left driving in Azar. Reina went 3-3 on the day with the RBI to end his season red hot.

Toribio exited his final collegiate start after five innings with 1 earned run. Senior, Lucas Junger (Waretown, N.J.) came in the game in the sixth and was outstanding. The righty pitched six innings of shut out baseball allowing just one hit while striking out seven.

Harry Montero (Millville, N.J.) tied the game at 3-3 in the seventh with a single that just got by the shortstop and scored Brandon Morales (Hialeah, F.L.) and Reina. Montero went 2-4 in the game. Cris Cabral (Lodi, N.J.) also picked up two hits in four at bats in the game, ending his season with a five game hit streak.

The Cougars managed to get runners on second and third with one out in the ninth but could not push a run across as Junger got out the jam to keep the game tied.

The game remained tied at 3-3 after an inning and a half setting the stage for Azar's heroics in the bottom 11th. Following his homer, Azar was doused with ice water to celebrate a win that the 2015 seniors will never forget.

Bloomfield ended their year with a 7-29-0 record and a 4-16 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) mark. Freshmen, Montero, Reina and Isaac Pichardo (Passaic, N.J.) led the team in batting averages, posting .313, .285 and .265 respectively. Reina also led the Bears with 20 RBI's to fuel talks of Bloomfield's promising future.
