BLOOMFIELD, N.J. - The Bloomfield College women's soccer team dropped a 7-3 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) decision to the Tigers of Holy Family University Saturday afternoon at Foley Field.
With the setback, the Bears fell to 3-4 overall and 1-4 in CACC play while Holy Family improved to 5-2 overall and remained undefeated in conference play with a 4-0 record.
Bloomfield struck first in the opening period when
Rianna McNew (Miami, F.L.) finished a ball past the Tigers' keeper in the 10
th minute of play to put the home team up 1-0. That lead was erased a minute later when Holy Family responded off the foot of Stephanie Ulmer (Philadelphia, P.A.) to tie the game at 1-1.
The Tigers seized control of the half with two goals in the 24
th and 27
th minutes of play but freshman,
Lisa Parello (Staten Island, N.Y.) capitalized on a penalty kick to cut the Bears deficit to 3-2 heading into the half.
Parello gave Bloomfield new life with her third goal of the season to open up the second half off a feed by
Nicole McWilliams (Staten Island, N.Y.) inside the box. The freshman pushed the ball past the Holy Family keeper's left to knot the score at 3-3 and gave the home crowd a sense of hope.
The Tigers responded with four unanswered goals in the second half to pull away from Bloomfield and secure their fourth straight CACC victory. Holy Family outshot the Bears 19-11 for the game and also held a 6-3 edge on corner kicks.
Bloomfield returns to the pitch on Tuesday afternoon when they travel over the bridge to face the New York Institute of Technology. The non-conference matchup is set for a 3:00pm start.
