BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - The Bloomfield College men's soccer team suffered a 4-1 setback in their final Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match of 2016 at the feet of the league's top team, Concordia College on Tuesday afternoon. The loss left the Bears, champions of the conference a year ago, at 3-7-2 this season in CACC action and 4-10-2 overall. The Clippers improved to 11- 4 on the year, which includes a 9-2, league record that crowned them as regular season champs of 2016.
Â
Bloomfield fell behind early as the CACC's top team converted a penalty kick off the leg of Ovan Oakley (Kingston, Jamaica) for a 1-0 advantage in the fourth minute of play. The Clippers added a second goal in the 19
th minute on a ball that got past the visitor's starting keeper,
Matthew Weigner (Warrington, P.A.). The Bears lone bright spot in the game came off the leg of sophomore,
Kevin Cubero (Sarchi, Costa Rica) who cut their deficit in half with his first goal of the season. Concordia took their 2-1 lead into the half as Bloomfield tried to regroup.
Â
Junior goalie,
Jovan Stanojkovic (Pancevo, Serbia) took over in net for the Bears the second half but Oakley was determined to lead his team to the regular season championship and finished off the visitors with two goals in the period and cemented his hat-trick for the day.
Â
The Clippers were on their game all afternoon and held a 12-2 advantage in shots on goal and a 6-1 lead in corner kicks. After a Cinderella season a year ago and winning the CACC Championship for the first time in the NCAA Div.II era, the Bears failed to make the post-season field of 8 for the first time in head coach,
Peter-John Falloon's tenure.
Â
Bloomfield will close out their 2016 campaign on Thursday with a non-conference home match against St. Thomas Aquinas College (STAC) at Foley Field. The Bears will celebrate 'Senior Night' as they honor the program's seniors in a ceremony preceding the 7:00 pm start time on the pitch.
