KELLY AND FLEMING LEAD BEARS TO FIRST WIN IN 2016

Box Score WALTHAM, MASS. – On day two of the Bentley Tip-Off Classic the Bears men's basketball team evened their season record at 1-1 with a, 97-83 victory over Merrimack College. Bloomfield shot 54.7 percent from the field led by Marcus Fleming (Linden, N.J.) and Rakwan Kelly (Newark, N.J.) who combined for 45 of the Bears total points. Merrimack saw Ryan Boulter go off for a career-high, 35 points but it was not enough as Bloomfield took the regional non-conference win.

How It Happened
  • The Bears took a 43-32 lead into the locker room with freshman guard Dontay Julius (Linden, N.J.) dropping 11 points including three 3-point buckets during the opening half
  • Merrimack trailed by as many as, 15 points (43-28) but two baskets before the half trimmed the Bears advantage
  • Nick Davidson (Lumberton, N.J.) played a solid second half to keep Bloomfield comfortably in from and finished the game with his first double-double of 2016-17 at 14 points and 10 rebounds (9 boards in the second half)
  • Julius finished the game with 18 points and Juan Brown (Annapolis, M.D.) rounded out the Bears top scorers with 10 points on 2-of-3 shooting and 5-for-6 from the charity stripe
  • Safee Abdus-Sabur (Newark, N.J.) came off the bench and chipped in 8 points in just 17 minutes of work
 
Up Next: Bloomfield will rest up for the week before playing their home opener on Saturday afternoon. The Bears roll out the welcome mat for the Firebirds of the University of the District of Columbia at 2:00 p.m. for tip-off at the Bloomfield Gym.
