After senior captain,
Amin Miller (Mandeville, Jamaica) opened up the scoring with his first goal of the season, the Bloomfield College men's soccer team saw Georgian Court University score two unanswered goals to take a 2-1 decision Saturday afternoon at Foley Field. The Bears (1-3, 0-1 CACC) dropped their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opener as the Lions (1-2, 1-0 CACC) won their first league match up.
Â
Teven Blake (Savannah la Mar, Jamaica) picked up his second assist of the week with a cross that Miller headed just past the GCU keeper's right side to put Bloomfield up, 1-0 in the 6
th minute of the game. Four minutes later the Lions found the equalizer on a rebound off the Bears goalie,
Wilson Cisneros (Bronx, N.Y.) in his first start of the 2016 campaign.
Â
The score remained knotted as the teams broke for the half in an evenly matched contest that had seven shots each for both squads at intermission.
Â
GCU took the lead in the 57 minute on a blast from outside the 18 that sailed over the Bears 6-foot-5 goalie and into the back of the net to put the visitors up for the first time. The Lions refused to give up a goal the rest of the way even though Bloomfield battled to find the equalizer.
Â
Both teams took 12 shots on the day as GCU placed 7 of them on goal to Bloomfield's 6. The corner kicks (7) and saves (5) were even for both teams as well as the offsides calls at three apiece.
Â
Next up the Bears agenda, they take a week to prepare for the CACC pre-season #1 team in the Wilmington University Wildcats. Bloomfield will travel to Delaware on Saturday September 17, for a 2:30 pm game time against the 'Cats'.
