EASTON, MASS – The Bloomfield College men's basketball team answered the call in their season opener Friday afternoon with an, 85-71 win over Assumption College at the Stonehill Tip-Off Classic.  The Bears saw four of their starters finish the non-conference battle in double-digit scoring as they moved to 1-0 on the fresh season.
 
Keith Washington (Philadelphia, PA) led Bloomfield in scoring with 19 points while tri-captains, Rakwan Kelly (Newark, NJ), Nick Davidson (Lumberton, NJ) and Marcus Fleming (Linden, NJ) added 18, 14 and 12 points respectively. The Bears shot 50.0 percent from the field in the opening half and secured a 42-30 lead heading into the locker room. Junior transfer, Jericho Cherisma (Brooklyn, NY) made his presence felt down low as the newcomer snagged six first-half rebounds.
 
Assumption (0-1) closed the gap with a 16-4 spurt to begin the second half as game-high scorer, Branislav Vujadinovic (Belgrade, Serbia) asserted himself to finish with 22 points. Kelly and the Bears would not be denied however as the junior poured in all of his 18 points in the final period including 8-of-8 from the free-throw line to help secure the win.
 
Next up for Bloomfield, they face-off with the Tip-Off Classic's hosts, Stonehill College on Saturday at Paula Sullivan Court. Game time is set for a 6:00 pm start.
