How It Happened – Game 1
- 1st inning – Anthony Maldonado (Newark, N.J.) had an impressive start against USciences as the Bears sophomore threw eight innings while giving up a modest three runs. Maldonado was able to fan seven Devils hitters while only walking one. Ellis Sanchez (Kearny, N.J.) finished off the game with a perfect ninth inning to pick up a save
- 4th inning - It took till the second time through the order for the Bloomfield hitters to get going, and results finally came in the fourth inning. Christopher Cabral (Lodi, N.J.) got the Bears on the board with a two-run double, scoring Harry Montero (Millville, N.J.) and Juan Reina (Paterson, N.J.). The Bears final run of the frame came off of heads up base running by the centerfielder, Thomas. After Anthony Lantigua (Belleville, N.J.) was picked off at first base, Thomas took advantage by stealing home and secured a, 3-0 lead for Bloomfield.
- 9th inning – After a game tying three-run homer from USciences in the bottom of the fourth, the game was locked heading into the 9th. "In games like this, someone has to step up and be the hero, and today it was Thomas' turn," head coach Jeff Watson commented about his senior outfielder. Thomas came through in the clutch with a game winning RBI double that scored Luke Loughery (Sussex, N.J) and the Devils had no answer in their half off the inning as Sanchez shut the door.
How It Happened – Game 2
- 1st inning – For Bloomfield, when Tejeda is on the mound, it almost always ends in a victory. The Bear's ace was brilliant once again, throwing seven shutout innings while only surrendering six hits. Just like Maldonado in the first game of the day's double-dip, Tejeda was also able to keep his walks low and his strikeouts high. He struck out six Devils and walked none to once again put the Bears in a perfect position to secure a win.
- 8th inning – With Tejeda's producing a gem on the mound, the Bear's offense knew they had to back him up. It took until the final inning when Ramger Iglesias (Bronx, N.Y.) broke the scoreless tie with an RBI single to left, scoring Loughery who tripled in the previous at bat. With a one run lead, Pichardo added a little insurance with a 2 RBI double. With both Montero and Iglesias scoring on the hit, Bloomfield's three runs were more than enough to complete the afternoon sweep.
Up Next: The Bears are scheduled to play LIU Post Saturday afternoon on the road but impeding weather conditions will be the deciding factor in the doubleheader's noon start time. Check back for more information and updates on Saturday's battle.
