How It Happened

  • 1st inning – The Bears senior ace, Carlos Tejeda (New York, N.Y.) got the nod on the mound and pitched seven innings, striking out four and walking only two. He gave up one run in the bottom of the first on a fielder's choice that put Chestnut Hill on the board 1-0. That was all the run support the Griffins starter, Patrick Kelley would need as he tossed a gem across eight innings and struck out seven Bears for his fourth win of the year.
  • 4th inning – Chestnut Hill tacked on another run off of Tejeda as the right-hander hit a batter with the bases loaded to force home a Griffin. The Bloomfield bats never woke up and the CACC's 5th seed managed only four hits across nine innings

Third baseman, Ramger Iglesias ((Bronx, N.Y.) finished the day with a hit and one stolen base as he pushed his CACC leading stolen base mark to 36 on the year. Iglesias finished 2017 ranked 2nd in NCAAD2 with 0.95 stolen bases per game and helped the Bears to finish 5th in the nation in that category.

"I'm proud of the guys and what we were able to accomplished this season," head coach, Jeff Watson said. "We came together and put in a lot of hard work, and although the outcome of this particular game didn't go our way, we have a built a strong foundation to return to the postseason and challenge for a CACC title in the future."

Bloomfield closed out the 2017 campaign among the top five teams in the league in stolen bases (2nd with 97), slugging percentage (3rd with .381) and homeruns (4th with 18). Iglesias led the conference in stolen bases while Tejeda finished fourth with a 2.01 ERA. Isaac Pichardo (Passaic, N.J.) led the team with 7 homeruns this season and ranked fourth in the CACC.

The Bears graduate six seniors from this years squad and will look to return to postseason glory with a strong nucleus of returners for 2018.
