MEN'S SOCCER RISES OVER WILDCATS AT HOME, 2-1

BLOOMFIELD, N.J. – The Bloomfield College men's soccer team saw Regsan Watkins (Cape Town, South Africa) bury a penalty kick in the 66th minute that lifted the Bears over the visiting Wildcats of Wilmington University, 2-1. The Saturday afternoon battle at Foley Field featured two of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) best teams and improved Bloomfield's record to 5-1 overall, with a 3-0 mark in league games.
 
The Bears, ranked 9th in last week's United Soccer Coaches East Regional poll, struck the first blow of the match as CACC Player of the week, Nicholas Calabia (Palisades Park, NJ) crossed a ball into the box that Arman Bashiri (Lovestad, Norway) headed past the Wilmington keeper, Vinny Tasca for a 1-0 lead at the 4:01 mark. Bashiri's 5th goal of the season kept the home team ahead until the 20th minute when Wilmington (2-2-2, 2-1 CACC) scored on a rebound off a penalty kick that got away from the Bears goalie, Jovan Stanojkovic (Pancevo, Serbia).

The CACC squads remained deadlock at the half as each team took 5 shots during the opening period of play. The battle raged on into the second half with neither team willing to concede an easy goal on defense. Bloomfield seized a chance when a penalty kick was awarded after Calabia was fouled in the box at the 66:00 minute mark. Watkins then took advantage on the penalty kick that tickled the upper left hand corner of the net for what proved to be the game-winning goal.  
 
Bloomfield will continue their quest for CACC excellence on Wednesday against Nyack College. The Bears will roll out the welcome mat for the Warriors at Folley Field for a 7:00 pm showdown in Bloomfield.
