SPARTANS STEP PAST BEARS, 75-47 IN HOME OPENER AT THE DEN

BLOOMFIELD, NJ– The Bloomfield College women's basketball team played their home opener at The Den Tuesday evening and suffered a, 75-47 setback against St. Thomas Aquinas College (STAC). The non-conference loss dropped the Bears to 0-3 on the year while the Spartans remained unbeaten at, 3-0. 
 
Bloomfield opened the game with their best 1stquarter of the young season, out-scoring the visitors 22-10. STAC battled their way back in the second stanza and went into the halftime break down five (30-25)  as the Bears offensive production slowed. The Spartans shot a dismal 28.2 percent from the floor in the opening half of play with the Bloomfield faithful cheering on their first look at the 2018 Bears.
 
STAC turned the tide of the game in the third quarter with a 31-8 outburst as the home team's struggles to find consistent offense continued.  The visitors shot a blistering 56.4 percent (22-of-39) across the final two quarters and secured the regional road victory.
 
Jaylah Benett (Newark, NJ) led the Bears in scoring with 13 points on 5-of-12 shooting from the field, with 10 of her points coming in the first half. Deja McKenzie (Baltimore, MD) churned out a double-digit performance with 11 points and led the team with six boards. Freshman, Caitlin Townes (Newark, NJ) provided support off the bench, knocking down 2-of-4 shots from beyond the arc and totaling 9 points for the evening.
 
Bloomfield heads on the road for their next contest on Wednesday, November 21stwhen they take on NYIT. The 'Battle of the Bears' is set for a 5:00 pm start in Old Westbury.
