BEARS BASEBALL OPENS SEASON UNDEFEATED FOR THE 2ND STRAIGHT YEAR

BLOOMFIELD, NJ – For the second consecutive season, the Bloomfield College baseball team got off to a perfect start on opening weekend, this year posting a 2-0-1 mark after three games.

The Bears won 9-5 on Saturday afternoon at Nyack College, followed by a 5-5 tie with the Warriors during a game that was called due to visibility after the sun set on the playing field. Bloomfield then traveled to Pennsylvania on Sunday and defeated Lincoln University, 12-5 to cap the undefeated weekend. The Bears captured a doubleheader against the Lions to start off their 2017 campaign, which ultimately ended in their first trip to the post-season in five years.

Junior transfer, Khalid Legette (Teaneck, NJ) got his first action in a Bears uniform and delivered 2 RBI's against the Warriors. The right fielder then added another RBI in the game against Lincoln University on Sunday. Senior, Anthony Lantigua (Belleville, NJ) went 4-of-9 on the weekend with an RBI and four stolen bases.

On the mound for the road-trip Bears, Yordani Nicasio (Paterson, NJ) got the win to open the season against Nyack after coming on in the 7th inning and the visitors pushed ahead for the lead. Steven Acosta (Lakewood, NJ) picked up the first win of his senior campaign, going three innings and striking out three while only giving up one hit and one earned run.

Next up, Bloomfield continues its' show on the road when they travel to Dobbs Ferry, NY to battle the Mavericks from Mercy College. The non-conference 9-inning  regional tilt is set for a 2:00 pm first pitch. Live video and Live stats will be available on the website.
