BLOOMFIELD SPLITS IN CACC BASEBALL ACTION ON THE ROAD AT POST U

WATERBURY, CONN – The Bears baseball team hit the road for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader Tuesday afternoon and came away with a split against Post University. Bloomfield took a 4-1 victory in Game 1 while the Eagles crafted a last inning, 3-2 win in Game 2.

The visiting team sent freshman hurler, Anthony Elefante (Forked River, NJ) to the mound in the opening game and he picked up his first collegiate win, going 7.0 innings, allowing just 1 run on 2 hits while striking out a career-high 8 batters. Elefante enjoyed the lead the whole way as Bloomfield got the scoring underway in the top of the first on a single to centerfield from senior Harry Montero (Millville, NJ) that scored classmate Juan Reina (Paterson, NJ). Montero struck again in the 4thwhen he drove in Cristopher Cabral (Lodi, NJ) to put the Bears up 2-0.

After the Eagles knocked in a run in the 7thoff of Elefante, Bloomfield saw Montero drive in the final run of the day when a single to right scored Isaac Pichardo (Passaic, NJ) in the top of the 8th. Yordani Nicasio (Paterson, NJ) came on in the 9thto close out Post and picked up his 3rdsave of the season.

In Game 2, the Bears (10-15-1, 5-9 CACC) turned the ball over to Anthony Maldonado (Newark, NJ) who pitched a complete game and fell to 2-2 after the setback. Maldonado gave up 2 runs in the 3rdbut his team got 2 back in the 6th  to draw the sophomore even heading into the final inning. The Eagles (16-16, 8-8 CACC) seized the game with a walk-off single to left field that drove in the winning run.

Bloomfield will continue their CACC schedule on Friday when they travel to Dominican College for another double-dip. First pitch against the Chargers is slated for 3:00 PM with both teams jockeying for post-season position.
