LAKEWOOD, NJ– The Bloomfield College men's basketball team got back to their winning ways Saturday afternoon when they defeated Georgian Court University (GCU), 90-73. The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory improved the Bears league mark to 8-2 and pushed their overall record to a game above .500 at, 10-9.
The Lions (2-17, 1-9 CACC) found themselves in a hole after the 1
sthalf buzzer sounded, down 42-35 with Bloomfield hitting 45.0 percent of their three-pointers (9-for-20). The visitors enjoyed a balanced scoring attack from a trio of their starters as seniors
Keith Washington (Philadelphia, PA) and
Kavione Green (Amityville, NY) along with sophomore
Rich Chapman (Newark, NJ) recorded 11 points each by intermission.
The Bears opened the second half with an 8-2 run that prompted a GCU timeout. Georgian Court fell behind by as many as twenty-six (71-45) in the 2
nd frame before yielding to their ninth CACC setback. The visitors lead for eighty-four percent of the game.
The triad of Washington, Green and Chapman finished the day with 28, 19 and 23 points respectively. Washington dished out five assists while Green snagged seven rebounds. Chapman had a strong defensive day, grabbing six defensive boards, swiping four steals and swatting four blocks for the Bears.
Bloomfield, winners of six out-of their last 8, will close out a three-game CACC road swing on Wednesday, Jan 30 in Bronxville. The Bears are set to face the Clippers of Concordia College at 7:00 pm.
