BRIDGEPORT, CONN– The Bloomfield College women's basketball team got their 2019-20 campaign underway this weekend and suffered two setbacks at the Bridgeport Crossover Classic in Connecticut. On Saturday, the Bears fell, 89-60 to Saint Anselm College and then dropped a, 100-51 match against Southern Connecticut State University on Sunday. The regional losses left the team with an 0-2 record to begin the year.
Sophomore guard,
Jaylah Bennett (Newark, NJ) led the offensive attack, averaging 17.5 ppg over the weekend and went 6-of-14 from behind the arc. Classmate,
Caitlin Townes (Newark, NJ) averaged 11.0 ppg including 12 points against the Hawks on Saturday. Forward,
Siani Smith (Burlington, NJ) snagged 6.5 rpg during the Crossover Classic to lead the Bloomfield effort on the boards.
The road trip continues for the Bears as they travel to Sparkill, NY to take on the Spartans on Wednesday, November 13. STAC welcomes Bloomfield for a 5:30 pm non conference match up in the Aquinas Hall Gym.
