BEARS COMPETE AT THE HISTORIC 125TH RUNNING OF THE PENN RELAYS

PHILADELPHIA, PA - Bloomfield College competed in the 125th Penn Relays hosted by Pennsylvania University in Franklin Field. Selected Bloomfield College student-athletes competed in the three day meet from Thursday, April 25, 2019 continuing until Saturday, April 27, 2019. Amongst Bloomfield College athletes there were some of the best high school athletes, collegiate athletes, and elite professional athletes from all around the world competing under Franklin Field.

 

Thursday, April 25, 2019.

  • On the first day of competition Jazmine Wiggs (Bowie, MD) was not hesitant to demonstrate her athletic abilities in the field events when she placed 5th in women's long jump with a mark of 5.69m (18-8). Teammates Jayda Osborne (Piscataway, NJ) and Siani Smith (Burlington, NJ) both hit a mark of 5.30m (17-4.75) and 4.87m (15-11.75). This concluded the first day of competition on Franklin Field for the Bears.

 

Friday, April 26, 2019

  • Tyler Davidson (Willingboro, NJ) competed on the second day in the 400 meter hurdles sprinting to the finish line with a time of 56.46. Michael Ramos (Riverside, NJ) followed along when he crossed the finish line with a time of 56.46

  • In the field events Jahvar Edwards (Hamilton, NJ) tied for 9th place with four other athletes when he jumped a height of 1.96m (6-5).

  • The 4x200 meter relay had a great performance when they placed 11th out of 31 teams with a time of 1:26.55, the team was composed by Mar'Quel Davis(Deptford, NJ), Samuel Keleekai (Westampton, NJ), Brandon Laraque (Rahway, NJ), Tyler Davidson (Willingboro, NJ)

  • Bears placed a team in the College Men's Shuttle Hurdles Championship of America Invitational, finishing 7th with a time of 1:01.33, the team was made up by Mikal Wright (Bridgetown, NJ), Da John Graves (Irvington, NJ), Jeanquai Morton (Riverside, NJ) and Matthew Lajeunesse (Union, NJ).

  • In the 4x400 relay, Bloomfield College placed 37th with a time of 3:18.16, the team was composed by Brandon Laraque (Rahway, NJ), Samuel Keleekai (Westampton, NJ), Isaiah Curbelo (Mount Holly, NJ), and Tyler Davidson (Willingboro, NJ) (48.57) anchored the team with a blistering time of 48.57.

  • Anthony Zarro (Randolph, NJ) placed 12 in the men's long jump with a mark of 6.90m 6.90m (22-7.75), while freshman Brandon Laraque followed closely when he placed 22nd with a jump of 6.69m (21-11.5).

 

Saturday, April 27, 2019

  • On the last day of Penn Relays, the action started in the field with Jahaud Lowber (Deptford, NJ) placed 8th in the triple jump with a jump of 14.09m (46-2.75).

  • The day continued on the track when Bloomfield College placed 12th in 4x800 meter relay with a time of 7:50.60, Tyler Davidson (Willingboro, NJ) was the first leg running a time of (1:58.57) after the baton pass Giovanni Aracena (Pleasantville, NJ) was the second leg running the fastest time in the relay team with a time of (1:55.77), Oneil Williams (Newark, NJ) was the third leg running a fast time of (1:56.82), while Nicholas Rivera (Camden, NJ) anchored the team with a time of (1:59.47).

  • The most outstanding performance for the Bears at the 125th Penn Relays came in the Sprint Medley Relay when Bloomfield College placed 2nd with a time of 3:29.44, a few seconds away from the University of Maine. The team was composed by Samuel Keleekai (200), Mar'Quel Davis (200), Tyler Davidson (400), and Giovanni Aracena running anchor (800) with a time of (1:56.29).

 

Bloomfield College is schedule to compete on Sunday, April 28, 2019 in Lincoln Park Track & Field Complex at Jersey City, NJ hosted by both Saint Peter's University and New Jersey Institute of Technology.
