CAREER DAY FOR STRACHAN POWERS BEARS CACC SPLIT WITH USCIENCES

BLOOMFIELD, NJ - The Bloomfield College Bears baseball team played their first games at home of the 2021 season and managed a split Saturday afternoon against USciences, thanks to a four homerun and ten RBI day from senior, Kendon Strachan (West Hempstead, NY). Bloomfield took game 1, 18-2 behind a strong outing from pitching ace, Wilfrido Valenzuela (Paterson, NJ) while the Devils rebounded for a 13-7 win in game 2. The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) teams each improved their records with the Bears moving to 1-2 on the year with a 1-1 league mark and USciences went to 2-5 overall and in conference play.

In game 1, Bloomfield was excited to play on the newly renovated West Side Park Field and it showed as the home team scored in every inning they stepped to the plate. Strachan got the action underway in the first inning with a solo homerun to right-center and the Bears never looked back from there. Darwin Tavarez (Garfield, NJ) singled to center field to drive in a run and Bloomfield was up, 2-0 after the first inning of play. In the 2nd, Strachan returned to the plate, this time with the bases loaded and jacked his first grandslam of his career that put the home team up, 6-0. In the third inning, Christian Cruz (Edison, NJ) went deep with his first career homerun and in the fifth, Javell Barnes (Elizabeth, NJ) hit a solo shot to left-center for his first homer as a Bear. Tavarez lined a three-run homer over the left field wall to cap the home team's long-ball onslaught while Valenzuela calmly picked up his first win of the year, giving up just one run (earned) on three hits and struck six Devil batters.

In game 2 Bloomfield looked like they would continue where they left off in game 1 as Stachan hit a 2-run blast over the centerfield wall to put his team up 2-0 once again. USciences had other plans for game 2 and promptly took the lead with three runs in the 2nd inning off of the Bears starter, Anthony Elefante (Forked River, NJ). Elefante went four innings and gave up six runs (five earned) on 7 hits and struck out three in his first loss of the year.
Strachan finished up his career-day with another two-run shot to left-center in the 7th inning which brought him to four homeruns on the day and ten RBI in the CACC split.

The Bears hit the road for their next contest on Tuesday, April 6th against Post University. The Eagles roll out the CACC welcome mat for a 3:00 pm first pitch against Bloomfield.
