WINTER HAVEN, FLA – The Bears softball team faced nationally ranked teams in Florida from March 5
th thru March 11
th and despite finishing the road trip with a record of, 1-10, Bloomfield learned valuable lessons to build their season on.
GAME 1
The Bloomfield College softball team traveled to the Sunshine State for their annual Spring Break Trip and were victorious over Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, 5-2 in their first action of 2022.
The Bears got on the board in the first inning after
Raelyn D'Onofrio (Voorhies, NJ) grounded out, scoring one run.
Taylor Galyean (Cottonwood, CA) toed the rubber for Bloomfield and collected her first win of the season. The righty surrendered one run on three hits over four innings, striking out five and walking zero.
The Bears tallied nine hits.
Sierra Albritton (Westampton, NJ) and
Daniela Vidal (Clifton, NJ) each collected multiple hits for Bloomfield College. Albritton led the Bears with three hits in four at bats. Bloomfield College was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error.
GAME 2
Bloomfield College watched Game 2 of the day slip away early and couldn't recover in a, 7-1 loss to the University of Findlay. The Oilers scored on a triple in the first inning and a home run in the second inning to seize control.
Bloomfield College struggled to put runs on the board and Findlay kept the pressure on, scoring three runs in the third inning.
Danielle Walters (Richboro, PA) was in the circle for the Bears. The righty allowed 13 hits and seven runs over six innings, striking out four and walking one.
Walters and
Sierra Albritton each managed one hit to lead Bloomfield College. Bloomfield College was sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Jordan Pollack (Marlboro, NJ) made the most plays with four.
Findlay launched three home runs on the day and collected 13 hits.
GAME 3
Bloomfield suffered a, 6-0 setback against West Virginia Wesleyan College Sunday afternoon in Florida. The Bobcats executed a double-steal in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead and never relinquished it.
Galyean pitched 4.1 innings and scattered four hits, giving up 3 runs while striking out 8. The Bears offense didn't provide any run support and only mustered two hits for the game.
Alanna Roberts (Clifton, NJ) recorded a stolen base for Bloomfield in the loss.
GAME 4
The Bears stayed in it until the end, but Southwest Minnesota State University (SWMS) pulled away late in a, 6-1 victory on Monday. SWMS fired up the offense in the second inning, when a single on a 1-1 count, scored the game's first run.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Bears tied things up at one when
Audrianna Ortiz (Beaumont, CA) singled and drove in a run. The game was tied at one with SWMS batting in the top of the sixth when a Mustang homerun on a 2-0 count, scored two runs.
SWMS scored three runs in the seventh inning.
Galyean led things off in the pitcher's circle for Bloomfield College in Game 4. The righty allowed five hits and one run over five innings, striking out five.
Jillian Holmes (Elkton, MD) threw two innings out of the bullpen and suffered the loss.
The Mustangs socked two home runs on the day and scattered ten hits in the game.
Bloomfield College racked up eight hits for the game.
GAME 5
Bloomfield College and Wheeling passed the lead back-and-forth in the 2
nd game on Monday, but eventually Wheeling prevailed 16-7.
The Bears collected 12 hits and Wheeling had 21 in the high-scoring affair. Bloomfield College opened up scoring in the second inning, when
Miya Payne (Chesapeake, VA) grounded out, scoring one run. In the bottom of the sixth inning, Bloomfield tied things up at seven when Holmes grounded out, scoring a run.
Danielle Walters toed the rubber for Bloomfield College and went six innings, allowing eight runs on 13 hits and striking out two. Holmes threw one inning out of the bullpen.
Vidal, Ortiz, and
Deja Robinson (Livingston, NJ) each collected multiple hits for the Bears. Vidal led Bloomfield with four hits in four at bats.
Wheeling hit two home runs on the day.
GAME 6
Bloomfield College fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 9-0 loss to Grand Valley State University (GVSU) on Tuesday.
GVSU took the lead on a walk in the second inning. The Bears struggled to contain the high-powered offense of GVSU, giving up nine runs.
Walters was on the rubber for Bloomfield College. The pitcher went three innings, allowing three runs on four hits and striking out two. Galyean, Holmes, and
Meghan Dressel (Fairless Hills, PA) each contributed in relief for Bloomfield College.
Madison Buechner (Bensalem, PA), Walters, and Vidal each collected one hit to lead Bloomfield College. Bloomfield College didn't commit a single error in the field. Vidal had the most chances in the field with five.
GAME 7
On Thursday Bloomfield College watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in an 11-3 loss to Augustana. The Bears struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Augustana.
The Vikings got things moving in the first inning with a solo homer to claim a 1-0 lead.
Galyean started the game for the Bears and went one inning, allowing five runs on four hits, striking out one and walking one.
Jillian Holmes threw six innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Augustana saw the ball well and tallied three home runs on the day while racking up 13 hits. Bloomfield tallied nine hits in the game. Robinson and Albritton each collected two hits to lead Bloomfield College. The Bears didn't commit a single error in the field.
Danielle Walters had the most chances in the field with seven.
GAME 8
The Bears saw the second game of the day slip away early and couldn't recover in an 8-3 loss to Mercyhurst Thursday. Mercyhurst took the lead on a home run in the second inning and never looked back.
Bloomfield College fired up the offense in the first inning, and pulled across two runs on a wild pitch.Mercyhurst scored four runs in the sixth inning.
Danielle Walters started the game for the Bears and the righty went six innings, allowing eight runs on 13 hits, striking out three and walking zero.
Sierra Albritton led Bloomfield College with two hits in four at bats. The Bears were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error.
Daniela Vidal made the most plays with five.
Mercyhurst tallied 13 hits in the non-conference match-up.
GAME 9
Bloomfield College and Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) battled to a 5-4 decision that didn't go Bloomfield's way in Game 9 of the Florida trip. The Penmen and Bears were supposed to meet earlier in the week, but the game had to be dropped because of wet grounds in Winter Haven. The schools agreed to meet in a rare third game of the day for each team on Thursday.
SNHU got on the board early with a three-run first to put the Bloomfield behind. The Bears tied up the game in the fourth after a 2-RBI single up the middle from
Miya Payne (Chesapeake, VA).
The Penmen delivered the game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the fifth. Holmes picked up the loss in the circle tossing five innings, giving up four runs on seven hits with three strikeouts.
GAME 10
Friday was a long day for Bloomfield College as they fell to Cedarville 9-3 in the first game of the afternoon.Cedarville scored five runs in the fifth inning.
Danielle Walters was on the rubber for Bloomfield College and surrendered six runs on eight hits over five innings, striking out two and walking one.
Meghan Dressel and
Taylor Galyean entered the game as relief, each throwing one inning respectively.
Bloomfield College totaled eight hits in the game. Vidal, Roberts and Ortiz all had multiple hits for Bloomfield. Ortiz, Roberts, and Vidal each had two hits to lead the Bears.
Cedarville tallied ten hits.
GAME 11
Bloomfield College watched the game slip away early and never recovered in a, 14-0 loss to Nova Southeastern University (Nova) Friday afternoon. Nova scored on a double, a single and a walk in the first inning to go up, 4-0.
Jillian Holmes was in the pitcher's circle for Bloomfield College. The righty allowed three hits and four runs.

Taylor Galyean entered the game from the bullpen, throwing three innings and one inning respectively.
Robinson led Bloomfield College with one hit in two at bats while Nova tallied ten hits in what proved to be the Bears last game of the Spring Break Trip as Saturday was rained out.
Bloomfield will take a week off before hitting the field again to open up conference play against Holy Family University on March 19
th. The Saturday double-dip against the Tigers is set for a 12:00 pm first pitch if weather permits.
