BLOOMFIELD, NJ – The Bloomfield College baseball team split their home opening double-dip against Mercy College on Friday afternoon. The non-conference, 7-inning doubleheader at West Side Park moved the Bears to 6-10 on the year with Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play opening up on Tuesday. The Mavericks improved to 5-12 after the split in Newark.
The visitors took Game 1, 3-2 after putting up two runs in the top of 8
th inning of a tied, 1-1 ballgame.
Elvis Lopez (Randolph, NJ) responded in the bottom half of the 8
th with a solo homerun shot but the Bears couldn't find any more run support.
Game 2 went into extra innings too, after Bloomfield evened the game in the 6
th on a wild pitch that scored
Christopher Walker (West Orange, NJ). Walker later belted a walk-off two-run shot to rightfield that secured the Bears first home victory.
Bloomfield returns to action Tuesday, March 22 when they travel to Felician University for their first CACC test of 2022. The single-game league contest is set for an 11:00 am first pitch.
