BLOOMFIELD NJ - The Bloomfield College softball team split with Holy Family University Monday afternoon at Shannon D Forde Memorial Park. The Bears played their home opener and Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opener after the doubleheader had been postponed from Saturday due to inclement weather. The split left Bloomfield with a 1-1 conference record and 2-11 overall while the Tigers moved to 4-16 on the year and 1-1 in league play.
GAME 1
Bloomfield College defeated Holy Family 11-4 thanks to a strong start. Bloomfield College scored on a single by
Audrianna Ortiz (Beaumont, CA) and a grand slam by
Danielle Walters (Richboro, PA) in the first inning.
Walters led things off in the circle for Bloomfield College. The pitcher surrendered four runs on ten hits over seven innings, striking out six and walking one.
Makenna Patterson toed the rubber for Holy Family. Patterson lasted five and a third innings, allowing 15 hits and 11 runs while striking out two. Sam Ciasullo threw two-thirds of an inning in relief out of the bullpen.
Bloomfield College smacked one home run on the day. Walters went deep in the first inning.
Bloomfield College racked up 15 hits.
Raelyn D'Onofrio (Voorhees, NJ), Ortiz,
Madison Buechner (Bensalem, PA),
Daniela Vidal (Clifton, NJ), and
Alanna Roberts (Clifton, NJ) each had multiple hits for Bloomfield College. Buechner, Ortiz, and D'Onofrio each collected three hits to lead Bloomfield College.
GAME 2
The Bears lost the lead late in a 10-3 setback against the Tigers in Game 2. Holy Family was down 2-1 in the top of the fifth inning when Elaina Hansen homered on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.
Bloomfield College struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Holy Family, giving up ten runs.
The Bears opened up scoring in the second inning, when Walters singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run.
Holy Family scored three runs in the seventh inning. Hansen and Ashley Remington each had RBIs in the big inning.
Remington was in the circle for Holy Family. The righty allowed four hits and three runs over seven innings, striking out 11.
Taylor Galyean (Cottonwood, CA) was on the rubber for Bloomfield College. The righty allowed 12 hits and seven runs over six innings, striking out eight.
Jillian Holmes threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.
Vidal led Bloomfield College with two hits in three at bats during Game 2.
Bloomfield returns to action Wednesday, March 23 when they travel to Millersville University for a non-conference match-up. The daytime double dip is scheduled for a 3:00 pm first pitch.
