In dramatic fashion, Bloomfield baseball defeated Felician University in the second game of the Sunday conference double header, as
Jonas Espinal (Fr.) hit an opposite field walk-off grand slam with two outs in the bottom of the last inning. Espinal, who also hit a home run in the 3
rd inning, finished the game with a stolen base, 3 runs scored, and 6 RBI's. Even afternoon snow flurries could not cool down the Bears offense, as they scored in 6 out of 7 innings of play, and all of their last three victories have been on walk-off home runs (the others were Chris Walker's against Mercy College on Friday, March 18
th and
Angel Murray's versus Chestnut Hill on Saturday the 26
th).
Other impact players in the game were starting pitcher, Chris Walker, who surrendered only 3 hits in 6 innings of work, relief pitcher
Raymon Sarza, who picked up the win after a 1-2-3 seventh inning, shortstop
Luis Ramirez who had 3 hits including 2 doubles and an RBI, and second baseman
Angel Murray who hit a solo HR.
Bloomfield dropped its' first game of the day by a score of 10 - 5, but overall the Bears' pitching and defense has been improving. Highlights on the day included 5 innings of relief pitching work from
Alex Medina (Sr.),
Javier Perdomo (Fr.), and
Raymon Sarza (Sr.), who gave up just 3 hits combined. Also third baseman
Justin Rivera (Fr.) recorded 8 assists on Sunday, and
Javell Barnes (Sr.) robbed a home run in centerfield.
The Bears next game is Wednesday versus Post University at Westside Park in Newark, 2 pm.
