BLOOMFIELD, NJ – The Bloomfield College baseball team dropped a pivotal doubleheader Sunday afternoon against visiting Dominican College. The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) matchup at West Side Park moved the Bears to 6-14 in league play with just five games remaining to decide post-season positions. The Chargers, currently 3
rd in the CACC North Division improved to 11-9 in the conference after the afternoon sweep in Newark.
The home squad dropped Game 1, 12-11 after plating six runs in the opening inning of the conference double-dip.
Javell Barnes (Elizabeth, NJ) led off the game with a hit and later came around to score on a single up-the-middle by
Elvis Lopez (Randolph, NJ). Dominican made a charge in the 7
th inning, knotting the game at, 9-9 but the Bears went back up in the bottom half of the frame, 11-9. The Chargers pushed across three in the 8
th to seal the win as
Bryan Guzman (North Bergan, NJ) picked up the loss (2-5) on the hill.
In Game 2,
Christopher Walker (West Orange, NJ) got the start on the mound and went five full innings, scattering eight hits and giving up four earned runs before turning over the game to
Alex Medina (Bayonne, NJ) in relief. Dominican posted four runs in the top of the 7
th to steal the contest and complete the series sweep over the Bears.
Bloomfield returns to the diamond Wednesday, April 27 when they travel to Nyack College for a CACC mid-week battle. The single-game league contest is set for a 12:00 pm first pitch.
