BLOOMFIELD NJ - The Bears softball team lost control of their playoff destiny Saturday afternoon after being swept by regionally ranked, Georgian Court University. Bloomfield fell to 13-28 overall while dropping to 11-13 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) with post-season play starting later this week. The visiting Lions used the two victories at Shannon D. Forde Memorial Field to clinch the CACC regular season title and finished the year 35-13 overall with a 21-3 league record.
In GAME 1
Danielle Walters (Richboro, PA) got the start in the circle with Bloomfield entering the doubleheader needing to win one game to lock up a playoff spot in the CACC Tournament. Walters worked three innings, giving up 9 runs, only 6 of them earned, on 10 hits. The Lions put up 10 runs in the top of the fifth inning off of reliever,
Jillian Holmes (Elkton, MD) and took a 19-1 victory into Game 2.
Raelyn D'Onofrio (Voorhies, NJ) went 2-for-2 at the plate and drove in the Bears lone run of the day.
In GAME 2
Taylor Galyean (Cottonwood, CA) took to the circle and gave up 11 runs, 8 earned on 12 hits while striking out 5 GCU batters. Bloomfield managed 3 hits in the 11-0 shutout and committed four errors in 5 innings of play.
The Bears began the day with the fifth spot in the CACC Softball standings and fell to the 8
th after the two setbacks. Bloomfield will await the final scores from around the league as the regular season comes to a close on Sunday and decides their postseason position.
