NEWARK, NJ – The Bloomfield College baseball team opened up Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play on Wednesday and erupted for an, 18-1 victory over the visiting University of Bridgeport (UB). The historic day was marked by senior
Justin Sanchez (Kearny, NJ) who recorded his 100
th career NCAA hit in a Bear uniform and helped his team improve to 5-13 on the season and a perfect, 1-0 in conference play. The loss dropped the Purple Knights to 4-14 for the year overall and 0-1 in league play.
Sanchez finished the milestone day going, 2-for-3 with 3 RBI and a run scored. He was also hit by two pitches during the contest. Senior first baseman,
Tyree Bradley (West Orange, NJ) went 4-for-5 from the plate which included a double and 2 RBI while classmate,
Elvis Lopez (Randolph, NJ) went 2-for-4, scoring 2 runs and driving in 2 runs. hit his fourth and fifth homeruns of the season as he blasted solo shots in the 4
th and 9
th innings.
Justin Rivera (Clifton, NJ) went 2-for-6 on the day with 2 RBIs and
Jonas Espinal belted his first homerun of the year in the 3rd inning.
Justice Ramirez (North Bergen, NJ) had a solid outing as he went the complete game to pick up his fourth win (4-2) giving up just one run, scattering seven hits and struck out three Purple Knights.
The showdown with UB now shifts to Bridgeport, CT as Bloomfield travels on Friday for an afternoon double-dip with their CACC rivals. The Game 1 first pitch is set for 1:30 pm at Seaside Park.
