DOBBS FERRY, NY – The Bloomfield College men's basketball team saw freshmen,
Starrell Hearns continue his hot-streak, scoring 24 points to help secure a 97-82 win over Mercy University Wednesday evening. The non-conference contest against the Mavericks was postponed from yesterday due to the impending weather storms in the area and helped Bloomfield is move to 9-6 overall while the Mavs fell to 1-11 on the season.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
· Hearns game-high, 24 points (9-15 FG, 6-10 3PT) off the bench went along with 2 rebounds, 2 steals and a block
·
Deavion Ellis led all starters in scoring with 18 points (6-11 FG, 2-7 3PT, 4-4 FT) to go along with 7 boards, 3 assists, 2 steals and a block
·
Zamorian Singleton chipped in 12 points (5-6 FG, 2-2 FT) and 5 boards as he dished out five assists
·
Al Fatir Connor played facilitator on the court, distributing a game-high, 11 assists and added 5 rebounds, 4 points and 3 steals
KEY MOMENTS
· The Mavericks galloped to a 13-10 lead in the first five minutes of the game. Two fastbreak layups prompted a Bears timeout. Bloomfield settled in and reeled off a 14-6 run to go up five with under ten minutes to play in the first half.
· Bloomfield extended to their biggest lead of 18 (41-23) after Hearns' fourth made three-pointer of the half and a six-minute Mercy scoring drought. The visitors enjoyed a 43-31 advantage at the break with Ellis and Hearns each contributing 14 points apiece.
· The Mavs came out energized for the 2
nd half and cut their deficit down to five at (58-53) with just under eleven minutes to play. The Bears calmly clawed out a 22-3 run across the next five minutes to regain command, 80-56.
· The visitors controlled the tempo for the rest of the 2
nd half and galloped away with the non-conference victory on the road.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
· The first half saw Bloomfield enjoy a, 28-21 advantage on the glass and a 16-2 edge in bench points production. The Bears led for 62.3 percent of the opening half and finished the night in-front for 81.2 percent of the contest.

Edward Ngene continued his solid play in the middle as he rounded out the double-digit scorers for the Bears with 10 points (4-6 FG, 2-4FT) and 7 boards. He also blocked three shots, had a steal and an assist for the Bears.

Marcus Bucknall came off the bench with a solid contribution of 9 points (3-7 FG 1-2 3PT & 2-3 FT) and grabbed 8 boards.
· The visitors finished the night with a massive 48-10 advantage in bench points and a dominant edge in rebounds at, 49-39.
WHAT'S NEXT
· Next up will be another road test on Saturday, Jan 1 (3:00 p.m.) when the Bears hit The City of Brotherly Love to face Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) foe, Holy Family University.
· The Bears won't return home until a week from today on Jan 17 (7:30 p.m.) when The University of Bridgeport comes to The Den for a CACC showdown.
