BLOOMFIELD, NJ – Despite out-rebounding their opponents, 53-29 the Bloomfield College men's basketball team dropped a, 91-87 decision to Dominican University on Tuesday night. The Bears, who still sit atop the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference's North Division fell to 17-8 overall after the setback and 9-5 in league games. The regionally ranked Chargers improved to 17-9 overall and 8-6 in conference match-ups after the road victory.
The two teams battled to a 46-46 stalemate in the opening half as both squads shot over 43.0 percent from the field in the first frame. Izaiah Poole made his fifth start of the season and was the only Bear starter who finished the game in double-figures. Poole poured in 15 points for the night on 5-of-10 shooting from the floor.
The Bloomfield bench kept them in the game as they outscored the Chargers' reserves, 46-26 led by a new career-high from Kareeme Davis who netted 18 points and 8 rebounds. Davis was followed Starrell Hearns who registered 16 points on 6-for-12 shooting and Zamorian Siingleton who added 12 points.
Al Fatir-Conner led the way on the boards with a game-high 11 rebounds to go along with 9 points and fellow starter, Deavion Ellis snagged 10 boards. chipped in 13 points (6-9 FG, 1-2 FT) and 4 rebounds. The nation's leading shot blocker, Edward Ngene only logged 9 minutes of playing time but managed to pick up his 100th block of the season and went a perfect 3-for-3 from the floor for 6 points. Ngene now sits tied for third on the CACC All-Time single season total blocks list.
On deck for the Bears will be their final non-conference regular season match when they travel to the College of Staten Island for a Feb 24 contest at 2:00 p.m. The battle with the Dolphins was rescheduled from Feb 3. Bloomfield will stay on the road as they return to CACC play on Wednesday, Feb 28 against the University of Bridgeport at 8:00 p.m.
The Bears close out the regular season at home on Saturday, March 2 when they host Caldwell University for Senior Day at 3:00 p.m.
