Bears Advance As Top Four Seeds Move To The Next Round Of The CACC Women's Softball Championship

Top Four Seeds Advance in CACC Women's Softball Championship - 

The four top seeds all won in the First Round of the 2024 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Softball Championships. #1 Wilmington will be joined by #2 Bridgeport, #3 Goldey-Beacom and #4 Bloomfield on Thursday May 2nd as Wilmington hosts the Double Elimination portion of the Championships. 

Wilmington defeated #8 Holy Family 2-0, Bridgeport won 5-1 against #7 Caldwell, Goldey-Beacom won against #6 Georgian Court 10-2 in five innings and Bloomfield defeated #5 Felician 6-2. 

On Thursday, Wilmington will face Bloomfield at 11AM ET, while Goldey-Beacom and Bloomfield will face off at 1:30PM.  The loser of each of those games will move to the Loser's bracket and faceoff at 4 PM with the winner moving on to Friday and the loser being eliminated. 

#1 Wilmington 2, #8 Holy Family 0 BOXSCORE

Wilmington's two runs were enough as they move onto the next round of the CACC Softball Championships. Wilmington scored the go-ahead run in the third inning off a fielding error which allowed Tristyn Stewart to score from second base. The Wildcats then doubled their lead with a Gabriella Saucedo home run in the sixth. Kylee Gunkel started in the circle for Wilmington and pitched seven scoreless innings while allowing only three hits. Liily Hoban led the way for Holy Family offensively with two singles. 

#2 Bridgeport 5, #7 Caldwell 1 BOXSCORE

The Purple Knights of Bridgport started off slow but eventually got hot to advance to the next round. Angela Oros got a home run in the first inning with two outs and nobody on. Bridgeport scored again in in the fifth as Samantha Schiebe got an RBI to bring home Oros on a fielder's choice and advanced to second on an error which brought home Isabella Porcaro to increase the lead to 3-0. Grace Vondracek scored on a passed ball at the top of the sixth but Caldwell did not score anymore runs. Bridgeport added two more in the sixth with a Meg McFarland RBI single and a Angela Oros RBI double, bringing her tally to three RBI on the day. Kaite Burawski started for Bridgeport in the circle and struck out 10 batters in her six innings . Grace Vondracek had three of Caldwell's four hits in the loss.  

#3 Goldey-Beacom 10, Georgian Court 2 BOXSCORE

Goldey-Becaom scored in each of their four innings at bat as they defeated Georgian Court in five innings. Autumn Simpson led the Lightning with three RBI, which came off of two singles. Bryn Bohmann and Rayna Pelcak each had two RBI, Bohmann's came off a double in the first inning to open the scoring while Pelcak's came from a single in the bottom of the third. McKenna Frank, Morgan Scott and Bri Snover each had RBI of their own. Pitcher Abigail O'Shields allowed only two hits which were home runs by Brittany Gable for Goergian Court.

#4 Bloomfield 6, #5 Felician 2 BOXSCORE

Bloomfield scored four of their six runs in the first inning which was enough to advance to the next portion of the Championships. Jocelyn Moody got her first of two RBIs to open the scoing as Danielle Walters scored on the play. Daniela Vidal grounded out to third and Sierra Albritton scored the second run of the game. Moody scored the third as Daniela Vidal grounded out and Hailey Connor had an RBI double to round out the scoring in the first inning. Moody had her team-leading second RBI in the bottom of the fourth to make the score 6-0. Jenna O'Reilly had a two RBI home run in the sixth inning to lead Felician in the loss.
