Mission Statement
The mission of the Bloomfield College Intramurals and Recreation Program is to enrich the educational experience and promote wellness by providing high quality physical recreation opportunities through the medium of sport; to provide programs and services that promote the maintenance of good mental and physical health as well as improve personal skills and promote social interaction; and to create an atmosphere that encourages individuals to develop a lifelong pattern of positive recreational activity regardless of skill level.
All events, programs, activities, and facilities are open to all students, faculty members, and staff of Bloomfield College.
What are Intramural Sports?
The intramural/recreational sports program at Bloomfield College is designed to provide an opportunity for the campus to take part in organized competitive and non-competitive recreational sports and leisure activities. Structured leagues and tournaments are offered in a diverse array of sporting activities that include team sports, meets and special events. Championship T-shirts are awarded to the winner or winners of each sponsored activity.
How to enter a team
1. Obtain an entry form from the office of Intramurals and Recreation.
2. Completely fill out the entry form, incomplete forms will not be accepted.
3. Turn in official Intramural entry form.
Important Intramural Information
1. Intramurals Guidelines The following rules and procedures are intended to promote fair and orderly competition for participants in the intramural program. These general guidelines will be supplemented by additional regulations that will be specific to each activity. Any of these rules are subject to change at the discretion the director of Intramurals and Recreation. The director also reserves the right to issue any new regulations that are considered essential for the success of the total program.
1. Entry Form
Entry forms are available for all activities and events offered y the office of Intramurals and Recreation.
2. Eligibility
Players must be active students, administrators or faculty or staff members. Recruited varsity athletes cannot participate in their own sport.
3. Roster
All rosters must be complete in full, which includes an acceptable team name, player names, student ID number or social security numbers, and captain’s e-mail address.
4. A captains meeting will be held before each season to discuss rules, schedules, and other information that is relevant to that particular activity.
5. All participants shall be required to bring their Bloomfield college student or staff ID card to all games. Players who cannot provide proper identification will not be permitted to participate.
6. A team shall forfeit any game in which it uses an ineligible player or a player participating under an assumed name. Individuals violating eligibility rules will be suspended from participation in intramurals pending an interview with the intramurals director.
7. Individuals ejected from a game for any reason will be suspended from all intramurals programs pending an interview with the director of intramurals.
8. Individuals ejected from intramural play must leave the intramurals facilities before play resumes. In the event that an ejected participant refuses to leave the facility, his or her team will forfeit that game.
9. Any participants suspected to have consumed alcohol either before or during an activity will be ejected and dealt with accordingly.
10. Game time is forfeit time. Any team or individual that fails to be ready for contest at the appointed time will forfeit to the opponent. In the event that neither team is ready, bother teams will be given forfeit loss.
11. Individuals may only play on one team per league.
Employment Opportunities
Most intramurals and recreation programs that are offered are supervised and staffed by students. Students interested in officiating or supervising these activities should contact the office of intramurals and recreation at 973-748-9000 x422.
Participation Liability
Bloomfield College is not responsible for injuries or accidents incurred through voluntary participation in it recreational sports programs or the use of its facilities. It is strongly recommended that all participants have a satisfactory health status (through an annual physical examination) and maintain personal accident/health insurance through the college.
The participant expressly understands and agrees that Bloomfield College and its employees are not responsible for claims, liabilities, costs, expenses, injuries, and/or deaths that arise from, or are caused by, the use of facilities or from the participation in activities provided by recreational sports programming. Participants are advised that injury is inherent in most sports and that there is an assumption of risk of injury when participating in intramural activity. The participants further understand that participation in the program is made at the sole risk of the individual involved.
Sportsmanship
A part of the intramurals and recreation program at Bloomfield College is that sportsmanship is vital to the success of every program we offer to the college community. Intramurals supervisors and game officials have been granted sole authority to make decisions to warn penalize, or eject participants or teams for poor displays of sportsmanship. The director of intramurals and recreation will rule on further penalties to be issued. All participants involved in displays of sportsmanship must report to the director of intramurals and recreation before their next scheduled game in order to be reinstated to the league. Reinstatement is at the direction of the director.
