Biography
About Stimpfel: A southpaw with a plus cut fastball, Sean anchored the Bloomfield pitching staff as the ace in each of his four seasons as a Deacon. One of the premier lefties in the CACC, Sean's stellar arsenal made him a tremendous on-field leader for the Deacons throughout his college career.
As a senior: Made 11 appearances on the mound with 10 starts in 2011, going 2-6...Finished second on the team in ERA among starters with a 4.01 mark, placing him in a tie for 24th in the CACC in the category...Fanned 47 hitters in 60.2 innings pitched, while walking just 14 hitters and holding opponents to a .274 batting average...Surrendered 47 hits while picking up a pair of hits in 18 at-bats as a position player.
As a junior: Appeared in 10 games on the mound for Bloomfield, making 10 starts...Led all starters with a 3.92 ERA in 62 innings pitched, also tops on the squad...Walked just 10 hitters, while striking out 37...Posted a .444 batting average in 24 at-bats as a position player, notching a double, triple and five RBIs
with a .357 on-base percentage.
As a sophomore: Made 12 appearances with 12 starts on the mound for the Deacons, going 4-3 with a 4.46 ERA...Led the Deacons in innings pitched with 76.2, a career high...Walked just 22 hitters while striking out 56, holding opponents to a .274 batting average...Sean’s signature performance of the 2009
season came against Wilmington University, when he tossed seven outstanding innings, allowing two earned runs and striking out five in a key Bloomfield victory.
As a freshman: Made 11 starts, with 19 total appearances for the Deacons...Logged 71 innings of work on the hill, stiking out 50 batters while walking just 29. Also hurled three complete games in his freshman campaign.
Why Sean chose Division II: “When I visited Bloomfield, I immediately felt comfortable and at home with the surroundings and the coaching staff. After meeting several players on the team I knew it was a good fit and an easy decision for me.”
Coach Watson on Stimpfel: “Sean was the ace of our staff since he was a freshman, and his cut-fastball was one of the best pitches in our league, from any pitcher. He developed into one of the top starters in our league, and we will certainly miss him next year. We wish him the best in his future."
