The 2008-09 basketball season marks head coach Gerald Holmes’ seventh year guiding the Bloomfield College Men’s Basketball Team. In his reign as Deacons head coach Holmes has led Bloomfield to 97 wins and a .540 winning percentage. His career coaching record stands at 97-82. Coach Holmes is coming off a 16-16 season where the Deacons returned to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) tournament before falling in the semi-final round.

 

During the 2003-04, 2004-05, & 2005-06 seasons Coach Holmes led the Deacons to 3 straight CACC championships and two consecutive NCAA tournament appearances, including the first ever NCAA tournament appearance in school history.  In 2004-05 he was honored as the All-Met Coach of the year.  Coach Holmes is poised to bring the Deacons back to the CACC Championship and another birth in the national tournament.

 

Prior to being named head coach, Holmes spent one season as an assistant coach at Bloomfield. Coach Holmes came to the Bloomfield campus via NJIT where he spent two seasons as assistant men’s basketball coach. On the high school level, Coach Holmes spent six years at Columbia High School in South Orange, NJ where he served as JV Head Coach and assistant varsity coach.

 

 

Holmes, a West Orange resident has a B.S. degree in Engineering Science from NJIT. In August of 2007 he was named “Who’s Who Among American Teachers and Educators” for his ability and dedication to making a significant difference in the lives of his students.
