Darren Boone took over the helm as head coach of the Bloomfield College men's and women's track & field team in 2020. Boone, a New Orleans, Louisiana native, brings 30 years of elite track & field knowledge and experience to the Bears program.
He first joined the Bloomfield family back in March of 2018 as an assistant coach in charge of sprints, hurdles and relays. The Bears men's team won the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Track & Field Championship in 2018 while the women's team finished a strong second, missing the title by just 15 points.
In 2013 Boone was the assistant track & field and Sprints/Relays coach for Union Catholic high school where in one year he helped produce several County, State and National Champions. Union Catholic won an unprecedented 3 National Relay Championships and a team National Championship in 2013. During the 2013 campaign at Union Catholic Boone produced 8 All-Americans
Boone served as volunteer sprints coach at Neptune High School and Shore AC Track & Field Club of New Jersey for over 10 years prior to going to Union Catholic. While at Neptune high school (Neptune, NJ) Boone coached many Shore Conference and State champions as well as several All-Americans.
During his high school coaching career Boone coached 5 athletes that represented the USA in World Youth and World Junior Competitions internationally. All five athletes returned from international competition with medals.
Boone has a bachelor’s degree in Sports Ministry and has three children; two daughters Denae and Kijiana and a son David.
