Catherine “Catie” Koenig is entering her third year at Bloomfield College of Montclair State University as an Athletic Trainer.
Koenig graduated from Rowan University in 2022 with a M.S. in Athletic Training. She
completed her clinical rotations at Rowan University, working with their women’s volleyball,
men’s basketball, baseball, football, and swimming and diving teams. In addition, Koenig
completed clinical rotations at Kingsway, Washington Township, and Delsea Regional High
Schools.
Koenig has completed research that focused on the mental health of student-athletes in the
collegiate setting. She presented her research, “The Mindful Injured Athlete Program:
Mindfulness Based Interventions for Division III Student-Athletes in Athletic Training
Rehabilitation,” at the Northeast Regional Association for Applied Sport Psychology and the
Northeast Atlantic Sports Psychology Conferences. She found this research to be useful in her
everyday patient care. The study identified the need for Athletic Trainers to not only focus on the
physical health of an injured student-athlete but to also prioritize the individual’s mental health
before they return to sport.
Koenig is a BOC Certified Athletic Trainer and is licensed as an Athletic Trainer by the New
Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners. She also holds a certificate in CPR/AED for the
Professional Rescuer with First Aid through the American Red Cross, a certificate in Naloxone
Administration, and a certificate for QPR Gatekeeper Suicide Prevention Training.
When Koenig is not in the Athletic Training facility or on the sideline of games, you can find her
training or showing her two Siberian Husky’s Stormy and Maximus, hanging out with her cat
Stryker, or refereeing soccer as a USSF New Jersey State Referee. Koenig is pursuing her
doctorate degree in athletic training from Temple University with an expected graduation of
August 2025 and currently resides in Edison, NJ.
